TOWSON, Md. - Goucher finished in seventh place with a team score of 142 points today at the Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Classic.
Rowan, which had five runners among the top 10 finishers in the 8,000-meter race, captured the team title with a score of 27 points. Juniata claimed the runner-up spot with 100 points, followed by Scranton (116 points) in third and York (129) in fourth. Three points separated three teams from Landmark Conference schools in the next three spots: Moravian (139) placed fifth, Catholic (140) sixth and then Goucher in seventh.
Gloucester County (187), Morgan State (193) and Drew (274) rounded out the team scoring of the 10 schools which fielded at least five runners.
Scranton teammates Chris Wasnetsky and Robert Olechna finished 1-2, separated by less than five seconds. Wasnetsky's winning time was 27:55.87.
The first Goucher runner to cross the finish line was sophomore Zach Martin (Victor, NY/Victor Central) in 20th place with a time of 29:43.27. Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Matt Spitznagel (Parkton, MD/Friends School of Baltimore) followed in 25th and 29th places, respectively. Rooney concluded the race in 30:05.75 and Spitznagel in 30:15.10.
The other two runners which figured in Goucher's team score were Sean Mack (Albany, NY/Albany) in 32nd place with a time of 30:30.24 and Adam Scipione (Walpole, MA/Walpole) in 41st place with a time of 30:59.18.
