HUNT VALLEY, Md. — A Goucher runner was among the top 10
finishers at the annual Baltimore Metro Meet for the first time
since 2005 today when sophomore Joey Negreann
(Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) crossed the finish line in
16:18.77, good for fourth place in the 5,000-meter race at Oregon
Ridge State Park.
Only one of the three runners who finished ahead of Negreann was from a Division III school. Justus David and Kipkorir Daniel Mutai from Morgan State were the individual champion and runner-up, respectively, while Steve Tobochnik placed third. David's winning time was 16:05.04.
Negreann's time is the fastest in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program for a race of that distance. He sliced more than :28 off the time he ran in this race a year ago as a freshman.
Goucher had only three other runners compete in the race, not enough to earn a team score. Senior Zach Martin (Victor, N.Y./Victor Central) placed 28th overall with his time of 17:26.10 and junior Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was only four spots further back in 32nd place (17:37.49). In the first race of his collegiate career, freshman Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) turned in a time of 18:13.09 to place 42nd overall.
