TOWSON, Md. — Roughly 250 Goucher students, faculty and staff members gathered on Sunday to participate in the One Family Dodgeball Tournament, an event organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to help raise money for the scholarship fund honoring former men’s lacrosse player Matt Gabriel.
The fun-filled afternoon, held at the Goucher tennis courts, ended up generating over $1,200, well over the original goal of $1,000 set by SAAC.
In addition to the 20 teams who signed up for dodgeball, there were plenty of volunteers to take the plunge in the dunk tank provided by the Office of Student Engagement. Additional money was raised through a bake sale conducted by the field hockey team, as well as through MG3 merchandise sold by Mark McDonald (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) and Andrew Schwartz (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) from the men’s lacrosse squad.
Congratulations to Gettin’ Out of Dodge, composed of members of the men’s tennis and men’s swimming teams, for winning the tournament with a hard-fought victory over Team Balagan, Goucher’s Hillel team, in the championship match.
Congratulations are also in order for head athletic trainer Jean Perez, who received a $25 Target gift card after winning the dodgeball tournament bracket challenge.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the One Family Dodgeball Tournament a huge success in its first year,” Goucher SAAC member Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) said. “Everyone had a great time and I’m proud of how the community rallied together to support a good cause. Matt would certainly be proud of the fun everyone had today.”
