TOWSON, Md. — Men’s swimmer Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), who claimed three Landmark titles at the 2014-15 Swimming & Diving Championships, and women’s lacrosse attacker Jessica Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll), who currently leads the conference in both goals and points, have been selected as the February Gophers of the Month.
With one season still remaining in his collegiate career, Richter is already the most decorated male swimmer in program history. He lowered his school records in each of his three conference-winning events, setting new marks in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.44), 100 butterfly (50.25) and 200 fly (1:51.73).
All three of those times were also new meet records, and Richter’s 200 fly performance was a D3B qualifying time. He has won that race in all three of his years at Goucher, and he is now up to six career Landmark championships overall. Between individual and relay races, Richter’s name is in the Gopher record books for 10 different events.
“This year, I feel like Morgan has gone from being a strong representative in our conference to being one of the elite representatives for our conference at the national level,” head coach Thomas Till remarked. “His drops in times this season alone put him within a higher tier of the top athletes in the country. He could easily be seen as untouchable by his competitors, but his great attitude and gracious sportsmanship in and out of the pool are what make Morgan a great role model for Goucher College and the Landmark Conference.”
Borucki has played a key role in the women’s lacrosse getting off to its best start since the 2002 season. She registered multiple points in each of Goucher’s three February matchups. After tallying a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut against Wesley, she added two more goals against McDaniel. Borucki then exploded for five goals and seven ground balls in the Gophers’ 14-1 win over Randolph on Feb. 28.
She has continued her strong play to start March, adding five more points (3G, 2A) in a win over Misericordia on Tuesday. Borucki currently leads the team and conference in goals (11) and points (14), and her 12 ground balls are ranked second on the team.
“Jess has been an instrumental player in the success of our offense this year,” head coach Ceri Miller said. “Coming in as a freshman and making this big of an impact is not easy, and she has exceeded my expectations. She is also a leader for us off the field and in the classroom which is evident with her 3.53 GPA.”
The selections of Richter and Borucki were made by the school’s sports information staff. Men’s lacrosse attackman Conner Annunziato (West Chester, Pa./Bayerd Rustin), men’s swimmer Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) and women’s swimmer Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) were also considered for this month’s honor.
