Gabrielle Blazek (New Orleans, La./Louise S McGehee), Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), and the 4 X 200m relay team were the top finishers for the Goucher College track and field team at the Alvernia PLEX Shootout on Saturday.
Blazek tied for seventh place in the pole vault by reaching the 3.05m mark. She also ran the 60m in 8.94 to get 33rd.
Gallina also ran the 60m and finished tenth. Her time was 8.50. In addition, she ran the 200m in 29.20 to place 31st. Gallina was part of the 4x200m relay team that gained sixth place in the race. Gallina, plus Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern), Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va./George Mason HS), and Michell Wolinsky together ran 1:55.95.
La Court Ruiz had a busy Saturday as she participated in four events for the meet, including the relay. In the 60m she ran 8.58 to finish in 15th. Her time for the 200m was 29.74, which placed her in 38th. Her last event was the long jump where she jumped 4.00m to 25th place.
Smith was also in the long jump, reaching 4.47m and 20th place. She ran 8.65 in the 60m race as well (19th). Smith's relay teammate, Wolinsky, finished the 200m in 30.31 and in 43rd place.
Shayla Mclish ran 32.41 in the same race to reach 57th place. She also participated in the 60m, reaching the finish line in 9.95 (47th). Victoria Wheeler (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), Estelle Chock, and Zoe Mitchener ran 9.66 (48th), 9.82 (50th), and 10.53 (53rd), respectively, in the 60m. Wheeler reached 2:445.21 and 30th in the 800m.
Isabel Srour (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) rounds out the women's side in the 1 mile and 3000m. In the mile race, she finished in 6:49.86 and in 36th. Her 3000m was ran in 14:25.05 and ended up 27th.
On the men's side, Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) and Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area) participated it in the shot put and the weight throw for the Gophers. In the shot put, Gladney threw to 11.24m (18th) and Bauer reached 10.53m (27th). The weight throw was Bauer with 11.08m (21st) and Gladney with 10.29m (27th).
The team's next meet comes on Valentines Day weekend at the 4th Annual Larry Sharpe Memorial. The Gophers will travel to Hagerstown, Maryland on Sunday, February 16.
