Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw Earns Outdoor Nationals Berth in 800

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS ACCEPTED ENTRIES | EVENT SCHEDULE

INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw of the Goucher College women's track and field team has qualified for next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in the 800-meter run.  It marks the second straight year Thornton-Fillyaw has qualified for outdoor nationals, and the fourth time in her career she will compete in the 800 on the national stage, as she has qualified for the indoor 800 as well in each of her first two seasons.

The 2024 championships are set for May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Stadium, with Coastal Carolina University serving as host.

Thornton-Fillyaw is  tied for the No. 3 seed in the 22-athlete women's 800 field.  She lowered her own school record and broke the Landmark Conference record in the event on Monday at the Widener Final Qualifier, running a time of 2:08.63.  The Landmark champion in the 800 as a first year, Thornton-Fillyaw placed second in the outdoor 800 this season after winning the event for the second straight year at the conference indoor championships.

The women's 800 prelims are set for Friday at 6:00 pm, with the final slated for Saturday at 5:50 pm.  The 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be streamed on NCAA.com.
