TOWSON, Md. - Goucher scored the final 10 points of the first half to assume a 30-29 lead over Susquehanna this afternoon, but then the Crusaders opened the second half with 16 unanswered points and they went on to register a 61-49 Landmark Conference victory over the Gophers.
The Crusaders (10-8, 3-4 Landmark) led by as many as 12 points before they failed to score a single point over the final 5:57 of the opening period. A lay-up by Francheska Guilfu (Bridgeport, CT/Preston) put the finishing touches on the 10-0 run that provided the Gophers (7-10, 2-5 Landmark) with their one-point advantage at halftime.
Goucher didn't score its first point of the second half, however, until Kathleen O'Grady (Palmyra, PA/Palmya) knocked down an 18-foot jumper to make the score 45-32 with 12:20 left to play. After that, the Gophers never got closer than within eight points.
Shadae Swan (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) surpassed 20 points for the seventh straight game and for the 14th time this season as she supplied the Gophers with 22 points. Her double-figure scoring streak now stands at 64 consecutive games dating back to the 2004-05 season.
Erika Barron and Ruth Williamson shared scoring honors for Susquehanna with 11 points apiece.
