Swan Tallies 22 Points in 81-54 Loss to CrusadersFeb. 9, 2008
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Goucher's losing streak reached seven games when the Gophers suffered an 81-54 Landmark Conference loss to Susquehanna this evening.
After spotting the Crusaders (12-9, 5-5 Landmark) the first nine points of the contest, the Gophers closed to within 9-4 on baskets by Candra Scott (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) and Shadae Swan (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy). But that's as close as Susquehanna would let head coach Didi Cotton's squad get before going on a 12-1 run to expand its lead to 21-5 midway through the first half.
At halftime, the Gophers (7-13, 2-8 Landmark) trailed by 17 points, 38-21.
The Crusaders maintained at least a 15-point advantage throughout the second half.
Goucher did produce the contest's leading scorer and rebounder. Swan, the fourth-leading Division III scorer in the nation going in at 22.8 points per game, was 8-for-16 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line as she finished with 22 points. Amber Smith (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) supplied the Gophers with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The top scorer for the victorious Crusaders was Rachael Hughes with 17 points.
