TOWSON, Md. - The three Goucher players in uniform for the final games of their collegiate careers combined to score 40 points this evening, but the Gophers still came up short against Catholic, 72-61.
The Gophers conclude their season with a 7-17 overall record and in eighth place (2-12) in the Landmark Conference.
Shadae Swan (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) accounted for the biggest chunk of the trio's 40 points. By supplying the Gophers with 28 points, she extended her streak of consecutive double-digit scoring performances to 71 games and concluded her career as the second-leading all-time scorer in the history of Goucher's women's basketball program with 1,636 points.
Francheska Guilfu (Bridgeport, CT/Preston) and Latisha McCray (Richmond, CA/The Urban School) tallied six points apiece.
Amber Smith (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
For Catholic (10-15, 5-9 Landmark), Kate Robinson was the leading scorer with 20 points.
Swan landed a shot from three-point range just :41 into the contest, but the Gophers added only two points on their next 11 possessions in falling behind 13-5. Catholic maintained the lead until the closing seconds of the first half when a lay-up by Candra Scott (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) put Goucher in front, 31-30.
The Cardinals opened the second half with eight unanswered points, going ahead to stay on a basket by Kate Robinson on Catholic's first possession of the period.
