50 Consecutive Double-Digit Scoring Performances for SeniorNov. 20, 2007
YORK, Pa. - During its 16-year association with the Capital Athletic Conference, Goucher's record against York was 6-28. Switching conferences didn't change the Gophers' fortunes against the Spartans - at least not tonight.
The Spartans (3-0) spotted the Gophers the first two points of the non-conference game and then immediately took command of the contest, opening up as much as a 40-point lead before pinning an 86-56 setback on head coach Didi Cotton's squad.
In spite of the loss, Goucher's Shadae Swan (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) reached a milestone and, in the process, set a new single-game school record. Despite scoring just four points in the first half, the senior finished with a game-high 22 points to extend her streak of consecutive double-digit scoring performances to 50 games.
She came by half of her 22 points at the free-throw line where she made all 11 of her attempts. That's the most made free throws without a miss by an individual in the history of Goucher's women's basketball program, bettering the 10-of-10 effort by Jessica Young against St. Mary's (Md.) on Jan. 10, 2001.
Goucher, which is playing its first season in the Landmark Conference, was a perfect 14-of-14 at the charity stripe in the second half.
The Gophers' only lead against the Spartans was the 2-0 advantage that a basket by Amber Smith (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) just 1:04 into the contest gave them. A three-pointer by Keli Ward 1:14 later put York ahead to stay.
Smith achieved a double-double for the Gophers (1-2) and she tallied 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
For of York's five starters scored in double figures led by a 14-point performance out of Chanel Perez. Ward and April Sparkman contributed 13 points apiece to the victory, and Kristen Daly added 12 points.
