WASHINGTON, D.C. - Shadae Swan (Baltimore, MD/St. Frances Academy) continued to put up big numbers, but Goucher's other four starters were limited to a combined total of 15 points tonight in a 70-57 loss to Catholic.
It was the inaugural Landmark Conference game for both teams.
Swan, who has tallied at least 18 points in every game so far this season, supplied the Gophers (4-3, 0-1 Landmark) with 26 points. She was 11-for-13 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Brianna Peterson captured scoring honors for Catholic (4-1, 1-0 Landmark) as she finished with 24 points. She scored the Cardinals' first seven points, putting them ahead to stay with a three-point basket that made the score 5-3 just 1:37 into the contest.
By the end of the first half, Catholic opened up a 39-29 advantage.
The Cardinals assumed their biggest lead (63-43) on a lay-up by Kristen Linderoth with 4:43 left to play, but the Gophers responded with nine unanswered points to close to within 63-52 on a free throw by Candra Scott (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) with 2:01 showing on the clock.
Catholic, which now owns a nine-game winning streak against Goucher, sealed the outcome by hitting 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
Swan was Goucher's only double-figure scorer. Scott chipped in with nine points and Taqwisha Richardson (Roanoke Rapids, NC/Western) and Francheska Guilfu (Bridgeport, CT/Preston) both delivered eight points off the bench.
