Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre
Dame) today was named Women's Basketball Player of the
Week in the Landmark Conference for January 5-11.
The junior forward was 6-for-7 from the field and made 12 of her 13 free-throw attempts on the way to scoring 24 points in an 82-56 loss to the Mariners. Not only did she register a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Gophers' 76-73 triumph over the Rangers, but she also blocked a three-point shot at the buzzer to preserve the victory.
Smith is the third-leading scorer (15.1 points per game) and top rebounder (9.3 rebounds per game) in the Landmark Conference.
Selections for Player of the Week are made by the conference office based on nominations from the sports information directors at the eight member institutions.
