SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Goucher's field goal percentage, already
the lowest in the Landmark Conference at .361 heading into today's
game against Susquehanna, dropped even further after the Gophers
were just 16-for-56 from the field (.286) in a 67-53 loss to the
Crusaders.
Elizabeth von Ende (Leawood, Kan./American Hebrew Academy) provided the Gophers (5-11, 1-6 Landmark) with their only lead of the contest when she made a lay-up 3:55 into the opening period, putting Goucher ahead 5-3. The Crusaders (12-6, 4-3 Landmark) pulled even on their subsequent possession on a basket by Jessica Zigarelli and then went in front for good when Rachel Hughes landed a three-pointer with 14:17 remaining before halftime.
Susquehanna, which improved to 8-0 in games in the O.W. Houts Gymnasium this season, led 36-20 after 20:00 and by as many as 23 points in the second half.
Goucher's five starters outscored their counterparts, 47-30, and three of them furnished the Gophers with at least 10 points: Leia Roberts-Brown (Capitol Heights, Md./Archbishop Carroll) led all scorers as she finished with 13 points, Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame), who remains the leading rebounder in the Landmark Conference at 9.1 rebounds per game, chipped in with 12 points and Amy Smith (Logan Twp., N.J./Paulsboro) tallied 11 points.
The leading scorers for Susquehanna were Samantha Cartwright with 12 points and Ashley Watkins with 10.
