than 15 points in a game since arriving at Goucher before erupting
for 29 points and leading the Gophers to a 74-70 victory over Hood
this afternoon.
The sophomore guard bunched 11 of the 15 points she tallied in the first half into a 17-1 run by the Gophers (4-4) that turned a nine-point deficit midway through the period into a 31-24 advantage with 3:18 remaining before halftime. During the game-changing run, Roberts-Brown was 4-for-5 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 on three-point attempts, plus she also picked up an assist on a basket by Kiara James (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute).
In Amber Smith (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame), Goucher had a second player reach double figures in points prior to halftime. The free throw Smith made with :08 showing on the clock represented her 12th point of the contest and provided the Gophers with a 36-28 cushion at the break.
Goucher outscored Hood, 13-6, over the first 4:18 of the second half to open up its biggest lead of the contest at 49-34, but the Blazers (2-7) responded with a 21-4 run and went back in front by two points on a three-point field goal by Sara Wastler with 8:53 left to play.
The Gophers went ahead for good on a basket by Kiara Doughty (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) that snapped a 60-60 deadlock with 4:10 remaining.
Smith backed up Roberts-Brown's career-high 29-point effort with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. The junior forward is the leading rebounder in the Landmark Conference in 2008-09, averaging 9.4 per game.
Jen Willison furnished the Blazers with 27 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
