MADISON, N.J. — For her performances in two games at the
Gallaudet Holiday Tournament, Goucher's Amber Smith
(Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) was named Women's
Basketball Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for
November 23-29, according to an official announcement out of the
conference office this morning.
Against Penn St. Altoona in the opening round of the tournament, Smith tallied a season-high 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the 20th double-double of her career with the Gophers. The senior forward finished with 13 points and six rebounds against Penn St. York in the tournament's consolation game.
In the two games, Smith was 12-for-21 from the field (.571) and made eight of her 14 free-throw attempts, plus she was credited with nine steals, three assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Smith currently is the fifth-leading scorer in the Landmark Conference this season at 13.7 points per game and ranks fourth in rebounds at 8.0 per contest.
Selections for Player of the Week are made by the conference office based on nominations from the sports information directors at the eight member institutions.
