Sea Gulls Dominate Boards, Coast to 65-45 Victory

But the Sea Gulls tallied the final five points of the period before opening the second half with a 10-2 run and they were on their way to a 65-45 victory over head coach Didi Cotton's squad this afternoon.
Doughty Supplies Gophers with 12 Points, Eight Rebounds
SALISBURY, Md. — Goucher's Kiara Doughty (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) made it a one-possession game when she got a medium-range jumper to fall with 2:20 remaining in the first half, trimming Salisbury's lead over the Gophers to 28-25. But the Sea Gulls tallied the final five points of the period before opening the second half with a 10-2 run and they were on their way to a 65-45 victory over head coach Didi Cotton's squad this afternoon.
Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco), who knocked down a 3-point field goal for the first points of the contest, converted a layup off of a fast break to provide the Gophers (0-6) with a 9-6 lead after 4:01. On Salisbury's subsequent possession, Chante McKinney landed a shot from 3-point range to create a 9-9 tie and spark a 15-2 run that allowed the Sea Gulls (4-5) to open up a 21-11 advantage midway through the first half.
The Gophers managed to get as close as 23-21 on a layup by Taquasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco) with 6:20 to play before halftime, but then they committed five turnovers over the final 4:10 of the period and were down 33-25 when they headed to their locker room.
Over the first 8:11 of the second half, the Gophers were guilty of 10 more turnovers. They also were just 2-for-9 from the field until Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie) nailed a 3-pointer midway through the period.
Doughty was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Gophers as she finished with 12 points, eight boards and a game-high five steals. Huff chipped in with 10 points.
For Salisbury, Milan Dry and K.C. Curran produced 18 and 14 points, respectively.
McKinney pulled down 11 rebounds for the Sea Gulls, who enjoyed a commanding 56-26 edge on the boards.
