Lady Jackets Shut Down Gophers in Second Half
AUSTIN, Texas — Goucher was outscored 24-2 over the opening 13:27 of the second half of this evening's game against Howard Payne at the CTX Winter Classic, causing a 27-20 deficit at halftime to spiral to 51-22. The Gophers were able to produce only 11 points over the final 20 minutes of play and were handed a 59-31 setback by the Lady Jackets.
Doughty Puts Forth Seven-Point, 13-Rebound Effort in Setback

The Gophers were able to produce only 11 points over the final 20 minutes of play and were handed a 59-31 setback by the Lady Jackets.
Although the Gophers (0-9) never held a lead, they stayed within eight points of the Lady Jackets (6-5) until Katy Sarem's layup with 6:02 remaining before halftime put Howard Payne up 21-11. Sarem and teammate Brittany Roberson racked up nine points apiece during the first half, while Kiara Doughty (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) was the leading scorer for Goucher with five points.
A pair of free throws by Ebony Winn (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne) accounted for Goucher's only two points of the second half until Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) got a jumper to drop with only 6:32 remaining in the contest.
Including an 0-for-11 stretch at the beginning of the second half, the Gophers finished with a .250 shooting percentage, which included an 0-for-12 performance from 3-point range.
Doughty was held to two points in the second half, but still finished as Goucher's leading scorer as she had seven points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Kollock and Winn supplied the Gophers with six points apiece.
Sarem (16 points) edged out Roberson (15) for scoring honors for Howard Payne.
