Huff, Lambert Combine for 26 Points in 63-46 Setback
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher, which had been 0-9 all-time against Susquehanna, will have to settle for just the one victory over the Crusaders this season because the Gophers dropped the rematch between the two teams which shared seventh place in the Landmark Conference this evening in O.W. Houts Gymnasium, 63-46.
It took the Gophers more than five minutes to score their first point as the Crusaders (5-18, 2-10 Landmark) bolted out to an early 7-0 lead. Two free throws by Sherlanda Buskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) got head coach Didi Cotton's squad on the scoreboard with 14:53 remaining in the first half, but nearly two more minutes ran off the clock before TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco) converted a layup for Goucher's first field goal of the contest.
Still, after 20 minutes, the Gophers (5-18, 1-11 Landmark) trailed by only six points, 28-22.
A 12-0 run to open the second half that featured 3-point baskets by Korey McCaffrey and Nora Joyce extended Susquehanna's lead to 40-22 and Goucher found itself down by at least 12 points the remainder of the game.
Susquehanna's Gina Palazzi led all scorers with 15 points.
The leading scorers for the Gophers were Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie), who delivered 14 points off the bench, and Lambert, who finished with 12 points.
When the two teams clashed in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center back on Jan. 14, Goucher prevailed in overtime, 77-74.
