Season-High 24 Steals in 62-35 Victory Over Bison
TOWSON, Md. — Another double-double by Latifah Butler (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) — the freshman forward's sixth in eight games so far this season — powered Goucher past Gallaudet, 62-35, in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center this evening.
Butler was 10-for-13 from the field and missed only one of her six free-throw attempts as she produced game-high totals of 25 points and 13 rebounds. She accounted for seven of Goucher's season-high 24 steals, as well as two blocked shots.
Butler cashed in one of her steals, making a layup 4:58 into the contest that put the Gophers (3-5) ahead not only for the first time, but also for good. They would stretch their advantage to 18 points by the end of the first half thanks to a .536 shooting percentage in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Throughout the second half, Goucher's lead fluctuated bewteen 16 and 29 points. After a basket by India Perkins (Brentwood, Md./Bladensburg) put the Gophers up 45-20 with 11:45 remaining, they failed to score another point for more than four minutes. The Bison (2-4) went on an 8-0 run during that stretch, but head coach Didi Cotton's squad still emerged from the drought in front by 17 points.
Adrienne Flowers (Columbia, Md./Pallotti) was the only other double-digit scorer for Goucher as she furnished the Gophers with 10 points.
Precious Kollock (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) was credited with eight assists and five steals in the non-conference victory.
Ten different players got into the scoring act for Gallaudet, but none managed more than six points.
