TOWSON, Md. — A historical week for Goucher's Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie), which saw the senior surpass 1,000 points for her career and break the program's all-time record for most made 3-pointers, has resulted in her first ever Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award.
Huff began the week with a 36-point performance against perennial powerhouse Catholic. That was the most points scored for a Gopher since Feb. 1, 2001, and it was also the most points scored by any player in the conference all season. Huff finished the game shooting 13 of 24 from the field, including a career-high seven 3-pointers.
Needing only three points to reach the 1,000 point milestone against Moravian on Saturday, Huff quickly ended the suspense with a 3-pointer just over two minutes into the contest, becoming the 10th Goucher player in program history to accomplish the feat.
She did not let up afterwards, finishing the game with 27 points, including a 5 of 7 shooting performance from behind the arc which allowed her to pass Shadae Swan for the most 3-pointers in Goucher history. Huff currently stands at 120 made shots from long distance during her four years as a Gopher.
The 27 points against the Greyhounds were the second most in her career, behind only Wednesday's outburst. For the week, she averaged 31.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
This is the eighth time that a Goucher women's basketball player has received the Landmark's weekly award since the league was formed in 2007, and Huff is the 11th different Gopher to be recognized during this academic year.
Goucher returns to the court this Wednesday with a 7 p.m. road matchup at Susquehanna.
