ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It took Goucher nearly seven minutes to score its first point against Rivier in today's consolation of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational.
The Gophers were 0-for-8 from the field, missed two foul shots, conmitted a pair of turnovers and trailed 11-0 prior to Olivia Nono (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) making two free throws. They missed four more shots and one more free-throw attempt, and were guilty of two more turnovers before a layup by Briana Bull (Baltimore, Md./Owings Mills) midway through the first half made the score 17-5 in favor of the Raiders.
Goucher would never get closer than eight points the remainder of the contest as Rivier claimed third place by downing head coach Didi Cotton's squad, 65-37.
The Raiders (2-5) outscored the Gophers, 10-2, over the final 4:37 of the first half, turning a 21-13 lead into a 31-15 advantage at the break.
Rivier's Deanna Purcell, who tallied 13 points before halftime, finished as the game's leading scorer and rebounder. She was 8-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-7 on 3-point tries, and made both of her free throws during a 21-point, 11-rebound effort.
Savannah Butterfield and Caitlyn Perry contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively, to the victory.
For the Gophers (3-2), Nono and Bull shared scoring honors with nine points apiece. Together, they also grabbed 18 rebounds.
Nono was Goucher's only representative on the all-tournament team
