Women’s Basketball/Track and Field’s Anise Williams and Women’s Tennis/Volleyball’s Tes DeJaeger Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Every week in the fall semester, Goucher Athletics names two Scholar-Athletes of the Week for their achievements in the classroom. This week's features are women's basketball/track and field junior Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla. / The Benjamin School) and women's tennis/volleyball junior Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn. / Brien McMahon).
Williams, a chemistry major, has a 3.37 GPA and was named to the Landmark Conference Honor Roll in 2019-20. As a freshman, the guard started 23 games for the Gophers and made her debut on November 13, 2018, with 24 points against Hood. Williams recorded double figures in 20 of 24 games, including four 20-point games. She went on to win the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and a spot on the all-conference second team. Additionally, the Florida native ranked in the Top-10 of the conference with 15.2 points per game and paced the conference and nation with 86 steals. Last season, Williams started all 25 games for Goucher and notched a career-high 29 points at Notre Dame (Md.) on November 26, 2019. She registered double figures in 20 of 25 games, including seven 20-point performances. As a sophomore, Williams ranked in the Top-10 of the conference with 15.1 points per game. She also paced the conference and nation with 96 steals. Williams did not get to participate in her first track and field season due to the outdoor season being canceled because of COVID-19.
DeJaeger, a physics major, maintains a 3.96 GPA and part of the 2019-20 Landmark Conference Honor Roll. As a freshman, the setter appeared in 29 games and made her debut against John Hopkins on August 31, 2018, for the Goucher volleyball team. That year DeJaeger went on to record 278 digs, including a post of 10+ digs 16 times. In her freshman tennis season, DeJaeger made her collegiate debut for the Gopher tennis team against Washington on March 8, 2019. She finished with four singles wins and five doubles wins, including her first singles win (6-4, 6-1) against Bryn Mawr on March 28. For her sophomore volleyball campaign, DeJaeger recorded 320 assists and 181 digs in her 21 matches. The Connecticut native notched seven double-doubles and posted 21 digs and 21 assists against Washington on September 8, 2019. Unfortunately, DeJaeger did not compete in 2019-20 for the tennis team after playing on the Goucher volleyball team in the fall and the spring season being canceled due to COVID-19.
