ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Elizabethtown College jumped out to a 31-10 lead after one quarter as it cruised to a 97-55 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory over Goucher College Wednesday evening at Thompson Gymnasium.
The Blue Jays (16-6, 12-3 Landmark) shot 54% in the opening quarter. Etown extended its lead over Goucher (1-21, 1-14) to 56-21 at intermission.
The Gophers, who shot 37.9% for the game, were led by Merci Turner's 16 points, as she finished 6-10 from the floor, including 3-5 behind the arc. Darby Sherman knocked down three three-pointers and matched her career high with 11 points for the third straight game. Brianna Johnson chipped in with eight points.
Elizabethtown outrebounded the Gophers 45-21 and shot 55.4% from the floor, 9-23 behind the arc and 16-19 at the free throw line.
Goucher plays its penultimate home game on Saturday when it hosts Juniata College in a 2 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
