River Hawks Give Gophers First Loss of the Season

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Goucher College 21-7, as it posted a 90-69 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- The lead changed hands several times before an Amira Whitaker three put Goucher (4-1, 0-1 Landmark) in front 12-10 at the 4:37 mark.
- The River Hawks (3-1, 1-0) scored the next nine points to go up 19-12 before a Meona Boykin three with 2:19 on the clock halted the run.
- Susquehanna led 27-22 after the first quarter.
- SU scored the first 10 points of the second to build a 37-22 lead.
- Eight straight points capped by a Nia Edens layup pulled the Gophers within five, 43-38, with 3:35 before halftime.
- Susquehanna closed the half on an 10-4 run and led 53-42 at intermission.
- The River Hawks scored the first six points of the second half to build a 17-point cushion, 59-42.
- Susquehanna closed the quarter with 13 straight points to make it 74-49 with 10 minutes remaining.
- SU extended the run with six more points to up its lead to 80-49 at the 8:27 mark.
- Goucher outscored the River Hawks 20-10 the rest of the way.
- Goucher was paced by Boykin's 21 points as she went 9-16 from the floor.
- Lauryn Towns was the othe Gopher in double figures as she totaled 10 points.
- Whitaker and Edens added eight points apiece.
- Goucher forced 42 River Hawk turnovers and registered 23 steals, but shot 30.3% overall, including 4-34 from long range. The Gophers were also 11-20 at the free throw line.
- Susquehanna, which shot 61% (36-59), outrebounded Goucher 53-38.
- Goucher is back in action Saturday, traveling to Drew University for a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home Saturday, December 7, hosting nationally-ranked Scranton in a 2 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
