No. 3 Royals Push Past Gophers to Remain Undefeated

TOWSON, Md. – The third-ranked Royals of the University of Scranton used a strong second quarter to pull away from Goucher College, as they record a 100-41 Landmark Conference women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- The Gophers (5-3, 1-3 Landmark) broke out to an early lead, with made baskets by Lauryn Towns and Nia Edens.
- Scranton (8-0, 4-0 Landmark) rallied back, putting up six unanswered points before Briyah Haggins put Goucher back on the board.
- The Royals maintained their lead, ending the quarter up 23-16.
- Scranton scored the first nine points of the second quarter, building their led to 32-16.
- Towns ended the Royals rally with a made layup with 4:31 remaining in the half.
- Scranton ended with a 14-point run, leading 44-18 at the half.
- The Royals began the scoring in the quarter with two made free throws, which was quickly answered with a score from Towns.
- Merci Turner added to the Gophers score with a three to end Scranton's six-point run.
- Savannah Holmes and Amira Whitaker joined the action late in the quarter.
- Scranton led 79-30 at the end of the third.
- Kayley Washington added a pair of threes for the Gophers in the final quarter.
- The Gophers were outscored 10-3 the remainder of the game.
- Whitaker led Goucher with seven points, going 4-16 in the game.
- Three other Gophers followed closely behind, Washington, Towns and Holmes added six points each.
- Goucher forced 24 turnovers, and tallied 14 steals, while the Royal had 28 turnovers with 21 steals.
- The Gophers shot 26.5% overall, which included going 4-22 beyond the arc. They were 1-8 at the free throw line.
- Scranton show 52.5% on the afternoon, and outrebounded the Gophers 60-31.
- Goucher is back in action Saturday, December 14th in a non-conference matchup at Trinity Washington University, set to tip off at 1pm.
- The Gophers return home Wednesday, December 18th to face Rosemont College in a 12 p.m. game at the SRC.
