Gophers Fall to Blue Jays in Conference Matchup

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Goucher College (10-4 Overall; 3-4 Conference) traveled to face Elizabethtown College (12-2 Overall; 6-2 Conference) in a Landmark Conference matchup. The Blue Jays used a strong defensive first half to secure the 101-74 win over the Gophers.

• Elizabethtown came out strong, scoring the first 9 points of the game, pulling the early lead just two minutes into the game.
• Sanai Knox ended the run for the Blue Jays with a made layup (7:49).
• Etown rallied to extend their lead over Goucher, but points by Chi Igwe and Nia George cut the deficit for the Gophers.
• Lauryn Towns scored the final four points of the quarter for Goucher with a pair of free throws and a layup following a steal.
• The Blue Jays led 29-16 at the end of the first.

• Etown held Goucher to just 8 points in the quarter. 
• Knox scored the first points for the Gophers to end a five-point run by Etown (8:11).
• Meona Boykin scored the four of the final six points in the quarter.
• The Blue Jays led 59-24 at the half.

• Towns scored first in the half, off a steal from Boykin (9:20).
• Nia Edens scored the next four points for the Gophers, with a pair of made free throws and a layup off a fast break following her own steal.
• Points by Boykin, Edens, and Towns prevent the Blue Jays from extending their lead.
• Amira Whitaker added five points for the Gophers at the end of the quarter, adding a jump shot after the steal from Lelia Townsend and a three-pointer with 15 seconds left. 
• The Bue Jays maintained their lead 79-51 at the end of the quarter.

• Edens sinks an early three for the Gophers just over a minute into the quarter.
• Townsend added points to the board, following a fast break and then drawing the foul.
• A strong performance from Merci Turner adds seven points in four minutes of game time for the Gophers
• Key Vaseleros added four points for Goucher in just a 10-second span late in the game (1:49).
• The Bue Jays finished with a 101-74 win, maintaining their almost 30-point lead the whole quarter.

• Boykin led the Gophers with 15 points, she also added four steals and four rebounds to in the game. 
• Edens and Whitaker also ended with double digits in the game.
• Towns led the Gophers with 5 rebound, with nine others recording multiple rebounds.
• Elizabethtown outrebounded the Gophers 60-42.
• The Gophers forced 31 turnovers, which resulted in 34 points, while the Blue Jays forced 19 turnovers resulting in 23 points.
• Goucher shot 29.0% in the game, going 6-19 beyond the arc, and went 66.7% from the charity stripe.
• Etown shot 57.1% on the night, they went 8-21 on three-pointers, and finished 65% from the free throw line.

• Goucher travels to Williamsport, Pa. to face Lycoming in the first game of the double header, set to tip off at 2pm.
• The Gophers return home to face Catholic on January 22nd at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center, with a 7pm start.
