A Fourth Quarter Push Secures Win Against Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Goucher College Gophers (11-4 Overall; 4-4 Conference) traveled to face the Warriors of Lycoming College (2-13 Overall; 1-7 Conference) in a Landmark Conference game. The Gophers pulled the win over the Warriors after a strong fourth quarter, where they scored almost a third of their total points.
- Meona Boykin scored first in the game, off a fast break from tipoff. She quickly followed up to score another layup off a defensive rebound to put the Gophers to an early 4-0 lead.
- Amira Whitaker added to the lead scoring off a steal, putting the Gophers up 11-4 (7:28).
- The Warriors six point run was ended by Nia Edens scoring off a turnover with 5:36 remaining in the quarter.
- A three-pointer by Briyah Haggins extended the Gophers lead to eight.
- Goucher led by as much as 14, before Lycoming rallied back to end the quarter just down by two (34-32 Gophers lead).
- Lycoming quickly took the lead for the first time in the game with a made three pointer just 28 seconds into the quarter.
- The Warriors extended their lead to 12 points after four made three-pointers (6:19).
- Merci Turner responded with a made 3 shortly after off the assist from Savannah Holmes.
- Points from Boykin and Whitaker, cut the lead for the Warriors with four minutes remaining.
- Lycoming ended the half with a 64-55 lead over the Gophers.
- Turner added the first points for Goucher in the half, scoring a layup and two free throws to cut the Warriors lead in the first minute.
- The teams traded points, with the Gophers just outscoring Lycoming 9-8 with 5:14 remaining in the quarter.
- Key Vaselaros added a three on the board for the Gophers off an assist from Haggins.
- Lauryn Towns quickly added four points off two made free throws and a layup.
- Whitaker put the Gophers back in front with 3:04 remaining, before the Warriors battled back to be up 87-82 at the end of the quarter.
- Lycoming held the Gophers scoreless for the first minute, extending their lead to 12.
- Points from Boykin, Whitaker and Haggins cut the lead to just three with just over half of the quarter remaining.
- A three-pointer from Edens puts the Gophers back in front, 100-99.
- The lead changed four times in the span of 30 seconds, ending with a layup by Whitaker (3:34).
- From there, the Gophers secured their lead to end the game 128-115.
- Whitaker led the Gophers with 32 points in the game, she also collected three steals and six rebounds.
- Boykin led Goucher with 10 steals in the game, while also scoring 28 points, and three rebounds.
- Edens added 18 points to the total, and Turner followed closely behind with 16 points. While Haggins and Towns each recorded six rebounds on the night.
- The Warriors outrebounded the Gophers 57-39, they also shot 50% on the night, 9-20 beyond the arc and shot 75% from the freethrow line.
- The Gophers forced 41 turnovers, which resulted in 42 points. They shot 44.9% on the night, going 7-38 from the three point arc, and shot 66% at the charity stripe.
- The women travel home to face Catholic on Wednesday, January 22nd at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center set to tip off at 7pm.
