Goucher Falls to Catholic in Playoffs, Ending Record Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Goucher College Gophers (14-12 Overall) traveled to face the Nationally ranked Catholic University Cardinals (23-3 Overall). The Gophers fell 117-71, which put an end to their record breaking season.
- Nia Edens began the scoring for the Gophers with a three-pointer after four points by Catholic, from an assist by Nia George.
- Catholic added six more before Meona Boykin added a basket for the Gophers (7:15).
- Amira Whitaker added a basket a minute later to respond to Catholics second chance points.
- With 4:35 left on the clock, Savannah Holmes scored a driving layup from a steal from Boykin.
- Whitaker added another basket after a steal from Edens, who then proceeded to add the final basket of the quarter just over a minute later.
- The Cardinals led 30-14, after adding six points to end the quarter.
- Catholic opened the quarter with a 19-2 run, to build their lead before Whitaker added a basket for the Gophers (4:09).
- Chi Igwe supplied the assist on a Whitaker three-pointer with 3:11 remanining in the half.
- Boykin added points to the board for Goucher following her own steal, and an offensive rebound by Sanai Knox.
- Lauryn Towns added the final basket of the quarter for Goucher.
- Catholic led 62-27 going into the half.
- Knox secured the first basket of the quarter, off her own rebound just 37 seconds into the half.
- The teams traded points before Catholic pulled ahead adding 4 before the next Goucher points from Edens with a pair of free throws.
- Shortly after, Knox added another basket off a rebound with the assist from Briyah Haggins.
- Catholic added a 14-3 run to end the quarter, which was ended by a basket from Towns (0:37). Towns added a steal right after, which resulted in a basket by Edens.
- Catholic led going into the final quarter 87-45.
- After a made basket from Catholic, George responded off a fast break with an assist from Merci Turner.
- Whitaker drew a three point play after finishing a basket prior to the foul being called (7:33).
- Igwe added four points, from a pair of free throws and then a fask break layup.
- Towns and Boykin both added points for Goucher, before Leila Townsend finishes another basket off her own steal (2:09).
- Maiya Villanueva adds to her total for the night, followed closely by a steal from Townsend and a basket from Haggins.
- Whitaker scored the final basket of the contest with an assist from Haggins.
- Whitaker led the Gophers with 17 points on the night, she also collected six rebounds.
- Edens followed closely behind 14 points, she added four reboundsand a block.
- Knox led the team in rebounds collected nine on the night, along with her eight points.
- Catholic outrebounded the Gophers 62-46. They also added 22 points off the 18 turnovers, while Goucher added 14 points off 22 turnovers.
- The Cardinals shot 51.8% on the night, going 14-35 from beyond the arc, and shooting 71.4% from the free throw line.
- The Gophers shot 30.3% in the game, going 4-19 beyond the three-point arc, and went 13-22 from the stripe.
