Oliver Ellison Announced as Head Coach of Women's Basketball Program
BALTIMORE, MD - Director of Athletics Stephanie Johnson announced on August 5 that Oliver Ellison has been named Head Coach of the Goucher College Women's Basketball program.
"Oliver Ellison is exactly what our Athletic Department and Women's Basketball program need. His transformational leadership will bring a renewed and much-welcomed energy. I'm excited to work with Oliver as we enter this new chapter of Goucher Women's Basketball." Said Johnson.
Ellison is a familiar face in Goucher Athletics, having served as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team since August 2023. He brings a broad range of coaching experience, having begun his career at Montgomery County (Pa.) in 2020 and working at various collegiate programs since. He also has eight years of coaching experience outside the college level.
A Washington, D.C. native and graduate of Gonzaga College High School, Ellison earned a basketball scholarship to Howard University. After college, he went on to play professionally in Africa and the Middle East.
"Throughout the interview process, it was clear that Coach Ellison brings a high basketball IQ and a genuine passion for recruiting and student-athlete development - both on and off the court." Said Associate Athletic Director/SWA, Megan Fultz. "He also understands the importance of building strong relationships across athletics, campus partners, and alumni, which will serve Goucher and the Women's Basketball program well. I'm thrilled for him to take this next step in his career here at Goucher and excited to see all that he will accomplish!"
When asked about the opportunity, Ellison stated, "I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the Head Woman's Basketball Coach here at Goucher College, having served as an assistant here I've witnessed firsthand the dedication of our student-athletes and the supportive culture within the athletic department. I'm grateful for the opportunity to build upon the program's recent success."
