Gophers Grind Out Tournament Victory Over Chargers
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (2-0 overall) opened day one of the Renie Amoss Tip Off Classic with a strong showing, earning a 48–40 win over the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (0-3 overall). The Gophers entered the matchup looking to extend their early season momentum, while the Chargers were searching for their first win of the season.
Goucher struck first with a layup from Leila Townsend, setting the tone for a defensively driven contest. After nearly two minutes of stops on both ends, Lancaster evened the score at 2–2. The Gophers responded, with baskets from Nia Edens and Savannah Holmes. Despite Goucher's early push, Lancaster kept the game tight, trailing just 6–5 with 3:47 left in the opening quarter. Late buckets from Edens and Logan Davis briefly extended Goucher's lead before the Chargers answered, sending the teams into the second quarter tied at 11–11.
