Edens Leads Gophers in Conference Test at Scranton
SCRANTON, PA- Goucher (3-2 overall, 0-2 Landmark) traveled to Scranton (5-0 overall, 2-0 Landmark) for a conference matchup against the Royals, where a strong early push from Scranton dictated the pace of the game.
The Royals opened with a seven-point run before Sanai Knox put Goucher on the board with a jumper. Despite efforts to slow the momentum, Scranton surged ahead to a 20–2 lead with 2:13 left in the quarter. A late sequence featuring a steal from Lauryn Towns, a pass to Leila Townsend, and an assist to Aniya McDaniel added to the Gophers' tally, but the Royals controlled the quarter, leading 22–4.
Towns opened the second quarter scoring for Goucher from the line, followed by a three-pointer from Chyanne Harris with 7:27 remaining. Scranton responded with a four-point run, but Goucher continued to connect from deep, with back-to-back threes from Nia Edens. Both teams played strong defensively, but Scranton stretched their lead to 41–14 before entering halftime ahead 45–15.
Edens struck first out of the break with a three-pointer, but the Gophers went scoreless again until a layup from Logan Davis, followed by another Edens basket with 3:57 left in the quarter. Harris found rhythm from beyond the arc with consecutive threes, and Towns sank a late three assisted by Nia George, closing the third quarter 68–35 in favor of Scranton.
The Royals scored first in the fourth before Edens added five points for Goucher. A scoring drought broke with Edens at the line, while Harris and George contributed late points. Despite Goucher's efforts, Scranton maintained control to secure a 90–48 win.
