Gophers Show Grit in Road Battle at Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, PA- The Gophers (3-3 overall, 0-2 Landmark) traveled to face the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (1-7 overall, 0-0 United East) in their second meeting of the season, having won the first matchup.
Goucher opened the scoring with a three-pointer from Nia Edens, but the Chargers quickly answered to tie the game at 3-3. The Gophers continued to rely on their shooting beyond the arc, with Nia George knocking down another three. The rest of the quarter turned into a defensive battle, but Logan Davis closed strong with the final four points, giving Goucher an 11-8 lead heading into the second quarter.
Davis kept the momentum going with an early layup in the second to make it 13–8. Lancaster Bible responded with a quick basket, and after a three-minute scoring drought, Chyanne Harris ended the dry spell with a layup. The Chargers then surged ahead, taking an 18-15 lead with 3:21 remaining. Strong defense from both teams kept scoring limited, but a late layup from Aniya McDaniel sent Goucher into halftime trailing 21-17.
Edens opened the third with a three to spark Goucher's offense, and Sanai Knox's putback brought the Gophers within one. Davis then gave Goucher a 26–25 lead, and after a scoreless stretch, McDaniel broke through with a layup. George followed with a three-pointer to extend the advantage. Lancaster answered late, tying it at 31, and a pair of free throws gave the Chargers a 33–31 edge heading into the fourth.
Goucher tied the game at 33 on a Davis layup early in the fourth, but Lancaster answered with two quick baskets. Edens kept the Gophers within reach with free throws and a layup, and Davis tied it again at 39 with just over six minutes left. The Chargers pulled ahead in the final minutes and maintained their edge despite late free throws from Savannah Holmes and George, closing out a 49–42 win.
Edens and Davis led Goucher with 12 points each. Knox posted a dominant performance on the glass, finishing with 12 rebounds, including eight on the defensive end.
Lancaster outshot Goucher 34.7% to 26.3% and held an advantage at the line, making 12 of 16 free throws to the Gophers' 8 of 12. Both teams finished at 25% from three.
Goucher returns home Wednesday, Dec. 3, to host Lycoming in a 7 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
