Strong Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes Gophers Past Lycoming
BALTIMORE, MD- The Gophers (4-3 overall, 1-2 Landmark) secured their first conference win of the season with a 60–48 victory over the Lycoming Warriors (3-4, 1-2 Landmark). The result also marks head coach Oliver Ellison's first Landmark Conference win at the helm. Lycoming kept the pressure on through three quarters, but a strong Goucher finish in the fourth sealed the game.
Goucher struck first with an early free throw from Aniya McDaniel, followed by a layup from Logan Davis before Lycoming evened the score at 3–3. Off the bench, Nia Edens made an immediate impact, knocking down a three-pointer, but the Warriors responded with a 10–6 advantage midway through the quarter. A two-minute scoring drought ended with another Davis layup, yet Lycoming maintained control and carried a 14–10 lead into the second.
The Gophers opened the next quarter with five quick points from Leila Townsend. A defensive stretch on both sides slowed scoring until Townsend hit a jumper that gave Goucher a narrow 17–16 lead. From there, Sanai Knox scored on a layup, and Nia George sank a three to create some distance on the scoreboard. Lycoming rallied to tie the game at 25–25 with under three minutes left in the half, but Davis closed the quarter with back-to-back layups, sending the Gophers into halftime up 29–25.
The Gophers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6, when they host Elizabethtown in a 4 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
