McDaniel Leads Goucher with 25 Points Against Delaware Valley

BALTIMORE, MD - Goucher (4-5 overall, 1-3 Landmark) hosted the Aggies of Delaware Valley University (3-6 overall) in a non-conference contest. The tightly contested matchup featured several lead changes before the Aggies pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a 75-69 victory.

The Gophers struck first with a three-pointer from Lauryn Towns. Goucher stayed hot from beyond the arc as Nia George connected to give the Gophers a 6-2 advantage. After a two-minute scoring stalemate, the Aggies tied the game at 6-6 before briefly claiming the lead. Towns answered with another basket to even the score at 8-8, but Delaware Valley began to take control at the free-throw line. Baskets from Sanai Knox and Towns kept Goucher within reach, though the Aggies closed the quarter with an 18-13 lead.

The second quarter began with a defensive battle before the Gophers as they came within one point of the Aggies off free throws and a Nia Edens layup. An Aggie layup keeps the Gophers at bay before a two-minute scoring drought for both teams. Logan Davis and Aniya McDaniel finish layups to give the Gophers the lead once again. Both teams traded made baskets before two McDaniel three-point shots put Goucher ahead 32-30 going into halftime. 
 
Delaware Valley opened the second half with the first basket and quickly found its rhythm. The Aggies surged ahead, building a 41-35 lead midway through the quarter. Towns broke through the defense with a layup, and Davis followed with a basket to pull Goucher within one at 46-45. Despite the push, Delaware Valley closed the third quarter holding a narrow 49-47 lead.
 
The Gophers stayed within two points throughout the early minutes of the fourth quarter. Edens finished a three and followed with a layup to keep Goucher in the game. With 6:19 remaining, the Aggies extended their lead to 59-54. Free throws from Edens ended a brief scoring drought, and a three-pointer from Leila Townsend tied the game at 59-59 with 3:39 left. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch, but Delaware Valley remained strong at the line. A late three-pointer by McDaniel pulled Goucher within one, but the Aggies held on for the 75-69 win.
 
McDaniel led the Gophers with 25 points. Edens paced Goucher with six assists and six steals, while adding 15 points for the Gophers. Davis led the team with nine rebounds, followed by Knox with six.
 
The Gophers outshot the Aggies 36.5% compared to their 32.2%. Delaware Valley was the dominant team from the line, going 32-39 to the Gophers' 15-31. Goucher was outshot from beyond the arc, going 26.7% compared to the Aggies' 29.4%. Goucher was able to capitalize on more points off turnovers, converting 27 points from the 26 Aggie turnovers.
 
The Gophers return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at noon, hosting Notre Dame (Md.) in a non-conference matchup to end the 2025 year.
