Davis Records Double-Double as Gophers Battled at Juniata
HUNTINGDON, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (5-8 overall, 1-5 Landmark) traveled to face the Eagles of Juniata College (4-9 overall, 2-4 Landmark) for a Landmark Conference matchup. A tightly contested opening quarter set the tone, but the Eagles maintained control throughout the game, earning a 72-51 win over the Gophers.
Juniata opened the scoring with a layup, but Aniya McDaniel quickly responded to tie the game at 2-2 within the first minute. The teams traded baskets early, including layups by Lauryn Towns and Sanai Knox, keeping the score tied at 6-6 with 6:05 remaining in the first quarter. Juniata briefly pushed ahead before Leila Townsend connected on a three-pointer to even the score once again. The Eagles capitalized at the free-throw line late in the quarter, while Logan Davis made a pair of free throws for Goucher. Juniata held an 11-10 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The Eagles scored the first four points of the second quarter before Davis answered with two free throws and a layup to keep the Gophers within reach. McDaniel finished a basket before Juniata took a dominant 30-20 lead. Nia George knocked down a three-pointer to cut into the deficit. In the final minutes of the half, Towns hit a shot from beyond the arc, and Townsend added free throws to close out Goucher's first-half scoring. The Eagles maintained the lead, 40-29, heading into halftime.
