Bio
For Didi Cotton, one of the all-time leading scorers and
rebounders in the history of Goucher’s women’s
basketball program, the 2014-15 campaign will be her 10th season as
the Gophers’ head coach.
Cotton had attained extensive Division I coaching experience prior
to rejoining the Gophers, having served for five years as an
assistant on the women’s basketball coaching staff at Florida
International. During those five seasons, the Golden Panthers
achieved a 105-47 overall record, captured the Sun Belt Conference
championship (2001-02), and made two appearances in the NCAA
Division I postseason tournament (1998-99, 2001-02) and two in the
Postseason WNIT (2000-01, 2002-03).
The Baltimore native launched her coaching career at St.
Paul’s School for Girls and became the head junior varisty
coach at Western High School in Baltimore (1996-97) and assistant
varsity coach at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami (2003-04),
and more recently worked as a recreation specialist/youth sports
coordinator for the Sports, Health & Fitness Office in the
District of Columbia Parks & Recreation Department (2004-05).
At Gulliver Prep, her team won the 3A state championship and was
ranked No. 19 in the nation by USA Today.
Cotton graduated from Goucher in 1996 with a degree in management
and earned a master’s degree in physical education and sports
management from Florida International in December 2003. She was a
four-time letterwinner for the Gophers and is one of only two
female basketball players in school history to earn All-Capital
Athletic Conference honors three or more times during her career.
She was a second-team All-CAC selection in 1993-94 and 1994-95, and
a first-team pick as a senior in 1995-96.
The Goucher teams on which Cotton played compiled an overall
record of 59-43. She was the leading scorer (18.5 points per game)
on the 1995-96 team that advanced to the NCAA Division III
postseason tournament.
During her four seasons at Goucher, Cotton scored 1,513 points,
the fourth-highest total in program history. She also ranks third
all-time in career rebounds with 693.
