VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The women's golf program began play today at the Bay Creek Invitational in Cape Charles, Va.
First-year Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore.) (90) led the way for the Gophers in their first round of Goucher golf history.
"I putted well today and was able to hit a lot of nice shots. Overall, I'm happy with how I played on this length golf course," Starchvick said.
Christina Pevey (Post, Texas) was the second lowest Gopher with a 96, Emily Pochet (Royersford, Pa.) shot 105, Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, Md.) 106, and Whitney Duran (Stamford, Texas) 112 to round out the team.
Allison Cooper of Penn State Harrisburg had the best round of the afternoon, finishing with a 73 - only one stroke over par.
"Today was a positive first step as we begin the journey of developing this team. The women are already starting to show some of their development and we just need to keep going at it," said Coach Brown. More results to follow.
The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow at 7 a.m.
