PHOENIX, Md. – Christina Pevey (Post, Texas/Post) eads the Goucher Spring Invitational after one round to help the Goucher women's golf team to a second-place standing on Sunday.
Pevey started on the 12th tee and posted pars on six of her first nine holes to go along with three bogeys for a 39 on her first nine holes. In her final nine holes she played, she registered three pars, three bogeys and two double bogeys to finish with a round of 82, three strokes ahead of the second golfer.
Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore./South Medford) and Danielle Pena (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery) also both sit in the Top-10 for the Gophers team. Starchvick sits fourth (90) and Pena (98) is in a two-way tie for ninth with teammate Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) (98), who is competing as an individual. Emily Pochet (12th place, 108) and Kiana Haskin (Waitsfield, Vt./Harwood Union) (14th place, 114) round out the Goucher team players.
Catholic leads the two-day event with a score of 362, 16 strokes ahead of the Gophers (378) while Sweet Briar (446) is also competing in the event.
Goucher returns to action in the final round of the Goucher Spring Invitational on Monday. Tee time has been moved up to 8:30 a.m. to try and avoid heavy winds scheduled to come into the area.
