Okun's Goal Snaps 13-13 Tie with Mustangs
TOWSON, MD Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh School) and Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) hooked up on a goal in the final minute of play today that allowed Goucher to open its 2007 campaign with a 14-13 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Villa Julie.

TOWSON, MD — Sandy Okun (Stevenson,
MD/McDonogh School) and Emily Blatter (Lexington,
VA/Rockbridge County) hooked up on a goal in the final
minute of play today that allowed Goucher to open its 2007 campaign
with a 14-13 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Villa
Julie.
The game-winning goal was Okun's second of the contest. Her first
provided the Gophers with a four-goal advantage midway through the
second half.
Blatter had a hand in eight of Goucher's goals, scoring three times
and picking up a total of five assists. Her third goal provided the
Gophers (1-0, 1-0 CAC) with a 13-9 lead with 7:03 remaining.
That proved to be more than enough time for the Mustangs (0-3, 0-3
CAC) to catch the Gophers by scoring four unanswered goals. Meghan
Smith's goal off a free-position shot created a 13-13 tie with 2:09
showing on the clock.
Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridfe)
accounted for the first four Goucher goals of the contest. She also
tallied a fifth goal in the first half, which ended with the
Gophers ahead 9-6.
The Gophers finished with a 33-27 edge in shots.
