TOWSON, MD — Emily Blatter (Lexington,
VA/Rockbridge County) scored five goals and picked up
three assists in leading Goucher past Guilford, 15-9, in Gopher
Stadium today.
It's the second eight-point performance for the junior attacker
already during the Gophers' 2007 campaign. She contributed three
goals and five assists to the season-opening 14-13 triumph over
Villa Julie on Thursday.
Blatter was awarded an assist on a goal by Marlo Tersigni
(Leominster, MA/Lawrence Academy) with 6:17 remaining
before halftime that put the Gophers (2-0) ahead to stay, and then
she converted a free-position shot with :24 showing on the clock to
extend Goucher's lead to 7-5 at the break.
Guilford (0-2) scored first in the second half, closing to within
7-6 on a goal by Carrie Ernst just :34 into the period, but the
Gophers outscored the Quakers, 6-1, over the next 21 minutes to
open up a 13-7 advantage.
Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and
Tersigni both furnished the Gophers with four goals and an
assist.
Seven different players tallied goals for Guilford, with Ernst and
Ellie Merrit scoring two apiece.
