TOWSON, MD — Goucher suffered its first loss of the
season today when nationally ranked Dickinson bolted out to an 8-1
lead on the way to a 19-11 victory over the Gophers.
The Red Devils (2-0) seized control of the game with a run of seven
unanswered goals that began with the score tied at 1-1. Alyssa
Crellin tallied two of her team-high five goals during the spurt,
which didn't end until Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh
School) produced Goucher's second goal of the contest with
11:10 remaining in the first half.
Okun scored again on a free-position shot with :14 remaining before
halftime, but the Gophers (2-1) still trailed at the break,
11-3.
The closest Goucher got in the second half was on an unassisted
goal by Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge)
that made the score 16-11 with 2:09 left to play.
The Red Devils, No. 11 in this week's Division III national
rankings, finished with a 40-28 edge in shots.
Only four players scored goals for Goucher: Marlo Tersigni
(Leominster, MA/Lawrence Academy) supplied the Gophers
with four goals, Okun with three, and Emily Blatter
(Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) and Knitter with two
apiece.
