MADISON, N.J. - Goucher is picked to finish in third place in the Landmark Conference in 2008, according to a preseason poll of head women's lacrosse coaches and sports information directors at the six member institutions that sponsor the sport.
Catholic and Drew are the two teams that finished ahead of head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers in the poll, which was released today. The Cardinals were made the favorite to win the inaugural Landmark Conference title by the slimmest of margins as they accumulated 42 points in the poll and the Rangers received 41 points.
Goucher picked up 29 points in the poll. The Gophers went 8-8 in 2007, their final season in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Four points behind the Gophers in fourth place is Scranton, followed by Susquehanna (19) in fifth place and Moravian (9) in sixth. Two Landmark members - Juniata and Merchant Marine - do not sponsor women's lacrosse.
The Gophers launch their 2008 season against Guilford on March 1 and play their first Landmark Conference game on April 5 when they travel to face Drew.
