CARLISLE, Pa. - Goucher and Dickinson were never separated by more than two goals this afternoon until the Red Devils reeled off seven unanswered goals to open the second half on the way to a 20-8 victory over the Gophers.
With Kate Knitter (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) scoring four times and picking up an assist on a goal by Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh School) in the opening 18:33, the Gophers (1-1) managed to reach the end of the first half down by only a goal, 8-7. But before they tallied their only goal of the second half with just 9:46 remaining, the Red Devils (2-1) had stormed out to a 15-7 advantage.
Both teams got off 16 shots in the first half, but Dickinson out-shot Goucher, 27-5, over the final 30:00.
Knitter provided Goucher with its only lead of the contest with the first of her four goals, scoring unassisted 7:23 into the game to put the Gophers ahead 2-1. The senior midfielder finished with four goals and a pair of assists.
Amy Jennings had a hand in nine of Dickinson's goals as she scored four times and was awarded a total of five assists.
