Khin Scores Five, Meissner Nets Career-Best Four
GLASSBORO, N.J. — In Rowan's opener, the Profs raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first 12:57, but Goucher chipped away, taking its only lead of the game with 58 seconds left to win 12-11.
With its lead cut to just two, Rowan (0-1) fought back, scoring the final two goals of the first half to double the lead back up to four.
The Gophers scored the first three goals out of intermission, courtesy of Megan Meluskey (Wilmington, Del./Concord), Khin and Meissner, but once again the Profs responded.
Once the Gophers got within one, Rowan scored again to boost its lead to 9-7. Khin's fifth got the Gophers within one a second time, but yet again, Rowan responded to make the lead a pair.
Meissner scored the next two goals to finally bring the Gophers level with 5:50 remaining, bringing her total to a career-high four goals on the day.
The teams remained even for just 23 seconds, however, as Marissa Micciche put the hosts back on top once again with a free position goal.
Goucher took advantage of a Rowan yellow card as Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) scored with 2:31 left to tie the game at 11-11.
With the game on the line, the teams exchanged possession five times before Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas / St. Andrew's Episcopal) caused a turnover, scooped up a ground ball, cleared the ball and scored, putting the Gophers up with 58 seconds remaining.
Rowan earned the ensuing draw control, but the team's final shot went wide of keeper Ashley Shaner (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), sealing the victory. Shaner stoped 16 of the 27 shots on goal for the day.
Rowan held an edge in shots, draw controls, ground balls, turnovers and clears, but Shaner's 16-6 edge in saves over Lindsay Barrie proved to be a major factor in the victory.
