Reifsnyder Tops in Goals, Caused Turnovers and Ground Balls
TOWSON, Md. — Erin Reifsnyder (Austin, Texas/St. Andrew's Episcopal) struck six times and Hannah Khin (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) added five goals, as the Gophers cruised to a 15-4 victory today over Notre Dame (Md.).
Goucher (2-2) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first 7:06 as Reifsnyder scored just over a minute into the contest. Megan Meluskey (Wilmington, Del./Concord) Doubled the lead just over two minutes later, before the two goal-scorers hooked up for Reifsnyder's second goal of the game to make the lead three.
Notre Dame (0-1) cut the lead to 3-2 on a pair of Alli Terry goals, but Goucher scored the next seven goals to open up a large cushion.
During that period, Khin scored thrice, Reifsnyder notched a pair and Anneke Ossorio (Lafayette, Colo./Kent Denver School) and Brooke Burnside (Bridgehampton, N.Y./Bridgehampton) each found the back of the net.
Terry's third goal took the teams into halftime at 10-3.
Goucher scored the first two goals of the second half in the first 44 seconds. Reifsnyder took an uncontested draw control out of intermission coast-to-coast to score just eight seconds into the frame. Khin scored her fourth goal of the game off the ensuing draw control to increase the lead to 12-3.
After Terry's fourth goal, Goucher scored the final three goals of the game, courtesy of Reifsnyder, Hannah Brown (Pinedale, Wyo./Dunn School) and Khin to end the game 15-4.
Reifsnyder's six goals came on just eight shots. The junior also caused a game-high six turnovers while scooping up a game-best sevcen ground balls.
Terry finished seventh in the nation last year in goals with 84 in just 16 games. Her 5.25 goals per game was fifth among Division III players.
