Franklin Earns Offensive Athlete of the Week Honor

TOWSON, Md. — Jojo Franklin (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver School) filled up the scoresheet during Goucher's two victories last week, and the freshman midfielder was chosen as the Landmark's Offensive Athlete of the Week as a reward for her all-around performance.

Franklin began the week with a team-high seven draw controls in the Gophers' 13-7 victory over Misericordia on Tuesday. Goucher won 17 of 20 draws overall, and that possession played a key role in the team rallying from a late 6-3 first half deficit. Franklin also contributed two goals, two caused turnovers and a draw control to the win.

In the following contest against Sweet Briar, Franklin was once again a force on draws, earning six of the Gophers' 12 draw controls in a 16-4 victory. She additionally totaled two goals, one assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. For the season, Franklin leads the team with 15 draw controls to go along with 10 goals, two assists, 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

This is the second time in three weeks that a Gopher has been recognized by the conference. Sophie Smith (Lawrenceville, N.J./Madison) earned Offensive AOTW accolades back on February 23.

At 4-1, Goucher is off to its best start since the 2001 squad began the season with wins in its first five games. The Gophers return to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday for a home matchup against St. Mary's (Md.).
