Goucher Women's Lacrosse Heads To Southern Virginia On Saturday Afternoon

  • Shannon Stull did something that hasn't been down by a Goucher College women's lacrosse player in 19 years. The junior registered nine goals and one assist in a 23-5 victory for the Gophers against Randolph College on March 1. Stull had matched her career-high in goals with 8:07 left in the first half including a natural hat trick earlier in the half and then she notched her seventh goal with 1:11 left in the first half to set a new career-best. The junior was not done after she scored twice in the second half to finish the game with nine goals and one assist for 10 points. 
  • Emily Flinn also had a career night with five goals and three assists for eight points. 
  • Julia Gazzola added a career-best four goals and matched her personal best with five points. 
  • Gabrielle Umstead finished with two goals and an assist while Camryn Agostino added two markers in the win. Lia Oren had four caused turnovers and three ground balls to pace the defense while Delany Comerford added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Abbie McHerron played the first 30 minutes to improve to 3-0 while Gillian Sickler played the final 30 minutes and made two saves.
  • The Knights are 4-1 this season after finishing 6-11 last year.
  • Southern Virginia is 3-0 at home this season after going 4-5 in Buena Vista last season.
  • In their last contest, the Knights defeated Ferrum 18-3 on Wednesday.
  • Natalie Rice leads the team with 16 goals and five assists for 21 points while also posting 23 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Mary-Kate Johnson has 27 saves, an 8.56 goals against average and a .482 save percentage.
  • Head coach Nancy Webber is in her fourth season at Southern Virginia.
  • Shannon Stull finished the week with 13 goals and three assists for 16 points to earn her second Landmark Conference Player of the Week honor of her career. Stull became the first player since Hannah Brown registered 10 points against Southwestern (Texas) on March 19, 2014 to notch 10 points in a game. She is the first player to find the twine eight times since Emily Blatter against Connecticut College on March 21, 2008 and the first player to twinkle the twine nine times in a game for the Gophers since Liz Martin against Villa Julie on April 23, 2001.
  • Emily Flinn has recorded three-straight multi-goal performances and ranks second on the team with 10 goals and six assists for 16 points.
  • Julia Gazzola is third on the team with nine tallies and five assists for 14 points while leads the team with 33 draw controls. The freshman has hauled in 29 draw controls in her last three games including a career-high 11 against Randolph.
  • Lia Oren leads the team with 11 caused turnovers and seven ground balls. The freshman has recorded caused turnovers in her last two matches.
  • Goucher is 3-1 for the first time since the 2015 season and with a win would be 4-1 since that season.
  • Goucher returns to action on Thursday at home against Bryn Mawr.
