Goucher Women's Lacrosse Concludes Two-Game Home Stretch Against Gwynedd Mercy On Saturday

  • Julia Gazzola keyed a 10-0 run with four goals to help rally Goucher College past Bryn Mawr College 17-12 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday. Trailing 9-5 with 25 minutes remaining, Gazzola started the comeback with a free-position goal at 23:29. The freshman then scored back-to-back tallies to tie the game and give the Gophers the lead for good at 20:21 and 17:57. She added a goal with 12:48 left in the game. She also notched a personal-best four ground balls and four caused turnovers while recording six draw controls.
  • Shannon Stull led Goucher with five goals and two assists for seven points.
  • Camryn Agostino added two goals and two assists while Alyssa Long posted two goals and an assist and Soleil Gagne also found the twine twice in the winning effort.
  • Abbie McHerron made 18 saves.
  • Katarina Molchen paced the defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
ABOUT GWYNEDD MERCY
 
  • The Griffins are 3-3 this season after finishing 6-11 last year.
  • Gwynedd Mercy is 1-2 on the road this year. The squad was 1-8 on the road in 2018.
  • In their last contest, the Griffins lost 22-11 to DeSales on Wednesday.
  • Victoria Braeunle leads the team with 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points along with fueling the squad with 21 ground balls, 42 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. Julia Smith has 39 saves, a 15.04 goals against average and a .307 save percentage.
  • Head coach Shannon Algeo is in her third season at Gwynedd Mercy.

  • Julia Gazzola tied her career high in goals (4) and points (5). It is the third time this season the freshman has recorded a hat trick and her second four-goal performance. Gazzola ranks second on the squad with 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points. She has registered six or more draw controls in four of the six games this season. 
  • Shannon Stull has registered at least four goals four times this season and 10 times in her career. Stull leads the team and the Landmark Conference in goals (26) and points (34) while ranking sixth in assists (6).
  • Alyssa Long registered a career-high eight draw controls on Thursday. It marked the second time this season she has scooped up five or more draw controls and third time in her career. Long paced the team last season with 38 draw controls.
  • Katarina Molchen notched a career-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers. It is the third time this season and fourth of her career that she has grabbed multiple ground balls in a game while it was the second time in her career she posted multiple caused turnovers.
  • Goucher is 4-2 for the first time since the 2015 season.
