BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Goucher's bid to finish in first place in the Bryn Mawr Invitational Tournament was thwarted today by a 2-1 loss to Immaculata.
The Gophers (1-1) put themselves in an early 1-0 hole by allowing an "own goal" just 7:30 into the contest, but they pulled even with the Mighty Macs (2-0) at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Bri Girard (Seymour, CT/Seymour) at 12:59.
The tie lasted until the 61st minute when an unassisted goal by Colleen Jennings provided Immaculata with a 2-1 lead.
Even though she faced 22 shots, goalkeeper Kellen Matthews (Northboro, MA/Algonquin Regional) kept the Gophers within striking distance with a 15-save performance.
On the strength of its second-place finish, Goucher landed three players on the all-tournament team: sophomore defenders Kanika Staten (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) and Nicole Sanfilippo (Roslyn Heights, NY/The Wheatley School), and freshman midfielder Sisley Pumilia (Chesterfield, NH/Keene).
