Kettner Puts Home Team Up with Goal at 1:24
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher managed to hold a 1-0 lead over Washington (Md.) for nearly 55 minutes this afternoon, and even after the Shorewomen drew even in the second half, the Gophers still managed to come away with a 1-1 draw on Beldon Field.
The Gophers (0-1-1) collected their lone goal just 1:24 into the contest when sophomore forward Shay Kettner (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) solved goalkeeper Tori Ripple of the Shorewomen. The goal was set up by a through ball by senior midfielder Sisley Pumilia (Spofford, N.H./Keene) from midfield.
The rest of the way including overtime, Ripple made five saves on a total of 10 shots by the Gophers. Her final save was on a shot that Pumilia got off just before the horn sounded to end the second 10-minute extra session.
It wasn't until the 57th minute that the Shorewomen (0-0-1) pulled into a 1-1 tie thanks to an unassisted goal by Ainsley Boynton. It was the only goal senior Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) allowed while playing all 110 minutes, during which she faced 22 shots and made 11 saves.
The Gophers were awarded eight corner kicks during the contest compared to four for the Shorewomen.
